Hosting of RDA Plenaries in U.S.
RDA Plenaries are three-day meetings held twice a year in various locations worldwide that provide the RDA community an opportunity to collaborate face-to-face in a format that encompasses a working meeting, a data community "town hall" and a venue to hear from industry experts and world leaders.
A number of organizations outside of RDA, who are also invested in the need for improved data sharing, often co-locate their own meetings at our Plenaries, to form a more cohesive agenda around critical issues such as data citation, reproducibility, preservation and data rescue.
U.S hosting and participation in these meetings is essential as it increases the impact of RDA within the U.S. community and the effectiveness of Working Group and Interest Group efforts for RDA/US members.
Since 2013, RDA has held two plenaries each year in varying locations throughout the world. Most recently, in September 2015, RDA’s 6th Plenary took place in Paris, France and was attended by more than 700 individuals, representing numerous countries and disciplines. RDA's 5th Plenary Meeting, which occurred in the spring of 2015, took place in San Diego, California.
RDA’s next plenary will be held in Tokyo, Japan (March 2016) . In September 2016, RDA’s Plenary will return to the USA. Titled “International Data Week,” this event will be bigger than ever and be co-located with SciDataCon 2016. Look for more details in the upcoming months.
