RDA-US 2017 Call for Adoption

RDA-US is pleased to announce the availability of support to assist U.S. projects, groups and organizations in adopting RDA Recommendations.  From what we hope are many strong proposals, at most three proposals will be selected for up to $35,000 of support over 9 months. Awards will be announced by December 15, 2017. Learn more. 

Call for Sessions Now Open for RDA's 11th Plenary

RDA welcomes submissions for session proposals for its 11th Plenary meeting to be held in Berlin, Germany, from the 21 to the 23 March 2018. 

The Working and Interest group breakout sessions provide an opportunity for discussion, sharing experiences and best practices, and laying down concrete action plans.

RDA-US Appoints Leslie McIntosh Borrelli, PhD, MPH, as Executive Director

Dr. Francine Berman, Chair of the United States (U.S.) region of the Research Data Alliance (RDA) – RDA-US – is pleased to announce the appointment of Leslie McIntosh Borrelli, PhD, MPH, as the Executive Director of RDA-US.   Dr. McIntosh will be responsible for launching RDA-US as a non-profit and leading the organization through its next stage of growth. 

RDA-US Welcomes New Members to the RDA Technical Advisory Board

RDA-US is pleased to welcome five new members to the RDA Technical Advisory Board (TAB), who were elected by RDA membership and will join eight continuing TAB members.   The RDA TAB has a critical role in the governance and advancement of the organization, by providing expertise and insight to its international and interdisciplinary data community.  TAB members serve three-year terms, with elections held annually to replace approximately one-third of the group.

The 11th RDA Plenary Meeting will take place from the 21st to the 23rd March 2018 in Berlin, Germany. Under the theme "From Data to Knowledge", the Plenary meeting welcomes the participation of all data scientists, experts and practitioners engaged in the advancement of data-driven science and economy.

The Internet of Things Needs a Code of Ethics

Dr. Fran Berman, RDA/US Chair, was recently interviewed by Kaveh Waddel for a piece titled "The Internet of Things Needs a Code of Ethics" featured in the The Atlantic.  Her conversation with him discussed topics including ethical design, and how to balance individual privacy with the potential for social good of connected devices that share data with one another.  Read the article at

RDA/US Data Share Early Career Program Announces 2017 Fellowship Awards

RDA/US Data Share, an early career engagement program for the Research Data Alliance/US is pleased to announce its selection of the 2017 cohort of Fellows. The Data Share program, formed in 2015 through grant funding from the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation, selects Fellows to engage with, study and contribute to the RDA. The program aims at strengthening fellows’ careers and their institutions in data science and data sharing through engagement with the large, international community of RDA.
