Dr. Francine Berman, Chair of the United States (U.S.) region of the Research Data Alliance (RDA) – RDA-US – is pleased to announce the appointment of Leslie McIntosh Borrelli, PhD, MPH, as the Executive Director of RDA-US.   Dr. McIntosh will be responsible for launching RDA-US as a non-profit and leading the organization through its next stage of growth.

Dr. McIntosh had been with the Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis since 2007, most recently as Director for the Center for Biomedical Informatics and Professor for the Department of Pathology and Immunology.   As RDA-US Executive Director, Dr. McIntosh will work closely with the RDA-US Chair and team to develop new efforts and funding that will sustain the organization.

“I am thrilled to join the RDA-US team and believe we have a critical role in supporting U.S. data activities and in providing leadership to the international data community,” remarked Dr. McIntosh.

Dr. McIntosh has a track record of achieving an extensive research support portfolio that has enabled her to focus on optimizing data management processes to provide meaningful decision support for effective and efficient health care delivery and research, and to promote reproducibility of data-driven results. Leading the implementation of strategic plans of over 600 researchers across more than 80 institutions, she has managed multi-million dollar annual budgets and played a crucial role in relationship building within her own teams, as well as establishing partnerships with private companies and public institutions.  Devoted to helping future generations understand the importance of data sharing, Dr. McIntosh has mentored many early career data scientists and provided guidance to company startups regarding the full life-cycle of data needs.

“Dr. McIntosh’s role within the data community and her experience in collaboration and partnership will have a tremendous impact on the RDA-US community,” said Dr. Berman. “We are delighted to have her on board, and look forward to her leadership here in the U.S. and her commitment to growing RDA-US as part of the larger RDA organization.”
