RDA/US Announces Lynn Yarmey as New Director of Community Development

Last month, Lynn Yarmey joined the RDA/US team as the new RDA/US Director of Community Development.  In her new role, Lynn will leverage her experience to help support and grow the RDA/US community and will contribute to the RDA Secretariat.

Lynn came to her interest in data through her early work as a seagoing programmer/analyst at the Scripps Institution of Oceanography.  She joined an Ocean Informatics team at SIO supporting the NSF-funded Long-Term Ecological Research program oceanographic sites along with other oceanographic programs and scientists. Recognizing her interest in data and information management, Lynn enrolled in the Master’s program at the top-ranked Graduate School of Library and Information Science at the University of Illinois Urbana Champaign where she received a Data Curation Education Program scholarship and the Council on Library and Information Resources (CLIR) A. R. Zipf Fellowship in Information Management. She graduated with a Master of Library and Information Science degree with a  specialization in Data Curation.

Lynn served as the first Science Data Librarian at Stanford University and subsequently as the Lead Data Curator at the National Snow and Ice Data Center.  She has served as Principal Investigator and Project Manager for numerous National Science Foundation awards related to data management, cyberinfrastructure development, and data community growth.  Her interest in national and international data community development peaked when working with the interdisciplinary polar data community through the Arctic Data Committee and other formal and informal groups. Lynn is interested in the development of vocabularies, standards, and infrastructure as boundary objects in research and community development processes and comes to RDA/US with energy and passion for strengthening and growing the data community.
